We had to leave the hotel at 2:00 a.m. I tried to get a little sleep but was too wired. The morning traffic wasn’t bad but it still too forty-five minutes to get to the airport. I am pondering my last taxi ride. Driving around in India is an adventure in itself. We arrived at the airport and went through the process once again. The customs line was very long. It’s a good thing we gave ourselves plenty of time.We found our gate and I had a little time to find a couple more souvenirs. I tried to mentally prepare myself for the travel. I knew it was going to be a long day.
The flight from Chennai back to London was pretty good. I slept for half of it since I didn’t sleep the night before. No sleep at the hotel ended up being a good thing. It made the ten-hour flight seem shorter. When we got to London it was significantly cooler. There were no delays or problems. I bought some sixty-dollar chocolate for my wife and daughter. We were afraid that our flight to Chicago might be delayed because of hurricane Sandy but we took off with no issues. I was thankful once we got in the air. At least I knew we would land somewhere in the states.
As we were touching down in Chicago I could tell the pilot was really fighting the wind. When we exited the plane we could tell that the wind and cold was significant. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 5:30 but it had been canceled. It was somewhat discouraging but we both decided that it was good to be back in the states. We knew we were close to home but we had to wait a little while longer. They scheduled us on a 10:15 flight so we have about a six-hour wait.We decided it was time for a cheeseburger.
We called home and let everyone know that we would be delayed. I slept for a little while on the floor in the airport. It seemed like days of waiting but our flight is finally ready to leave! After this day, and compared to the other flights, the two-hour flight from Chicago to Memphis felt like five minutes.
I’m not going to attempt to describe how I felt when I saw my wife. God thank you for safe travels. It is wonderful to be home. I thank you for the opportunity and experience of India. Please bless and protect your people there. Help me recover from my trip quickly. Thank you for your Son, Jesus, who has given me everything. It is time to sleep now…hopefully for days.
